Happy birthday Emily

Today is our middle daughter's 15th birthday. Can't believe she is that age already!!! As our tradition goes, on their 15th bday they get to go to Woodfield Mall with some of their friends to go shopping for their bday. They also get to eat dinner at Rainforest Cafe. This is a real fun place to eat. They also get to have a volcano at the cafe-which is a mountain of ice cream and brownies. Yum!!!!!(she is the one in red:)

Here's a picture of the yummy volcano we got for her birthday.
Have a very very happy birthday Emily. We love you!!!!!!!!!

vacation day???

The kids have today off if we decide it's ok. I know that sounds strange but there was a threatening note given to the high school and another of the elementary schools yesterday and the teachers all called and said if we decided not to send the kids today it wouldn't count against them because of the situation. The schools will all be on lock down but that still doesn't stop someone from doing anything stupid. It is sad that the world has changed so much that you feel afraid to send your own kids to school because of some whacko that wants to scare everyone.
So, today i am letting them sleep in. We decided that they can stay home. I would like the help today with the daycare kiddos anyway:) Besides i may have extra kids if their parents decide to not send them:P

monday madness

1. From bev:
Small town or big city?
Small town and wouldn't trade it at all.

2. From turtlemoonwave:
Do you have a favorite childhood memory, and if so, would you share it?
I loved going to my Grandma's house at Christmas time. It was always a lot of fun getting together with our cousins and Grandma would always buy DQ Dilly bars for the kids. We had a lot of fun playing on the farm where she lived.

3. From cat:
How do you calm down when something has really upset and/or angered you? Do you swallow it? Call a friend and rant? Go in the bathroom and cry? Punch a wall? Walk around muttering to yourself, complete with scary hand gestures?
First i count to ten...I know it sounds silly but that really gives you time to calm down. I just try to deal with whatever angered me. After i calm down i may call my friend for advice on how to deal with it.

4. From dna princess:
What attracts you to memes?'
I just think it is fun to do and i like to read other people's answers. You can get to know other people really well by some of the questions that are asked.

5. From mads:
How reliant are you on computers to get through your day?
Reliant on computers..... not really just like to get on the internet and blog or play games or chat with family.

6. From tizzie:
In a crisis, are you calm or do you panic?
I have really tried to keep calm during a crisis. Taking care of young children you really have to learn to keep calm otherwise you are going to have a house full of upset people.

1. From: cassie:
Dramas or comedies?
I like comedies more but every once in a while a good drama is just as good.

2. From: nutmegnine:
Your neighbor has frequent noisy parties on nights before you need to get up early. Do you confront him directly, call the police, call your landlord, join in the debauchery, or seethe quietly and do nothing?
If they continue to have the loud parties and it disturbs our family I would call the police.

3. From sherle:
Are you more comfortable in big crowds or small groups?
Probably smaller groups.

4. From zeno:
Do you prefer Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox?
I don't mind Firefox but some games can be played better on Internet Explorer.

5. From briar:
They say you learn something new every day. What new thing did you learn today?
Let's see....I learned that working out early in the morning makes you have alot more energy for the day.

The Pumpkin Prayer

Dear God,
As I carve my pumpkin help me say this prayer:

Open my mind so I can learn about You;
(Cut the top of the pumpkin)

Take away all my sin and forgive me for the wrong things I do.
(Clean out the inside)

Open my eyes so Your love I will see;
(Cut the eyes out in heart shapes)-The picture i found used stars.

I'm so sorry for turning up my nose to all you've given me.
(Cut a nose in the shape of a cross)

Open my ears so your word I will hear.
(Cut the ears shaped like the Bible)-we did rectangles

Open my mouth so I can tell others You're near
(cut the mouth in the shape of a fish)

Let Your light shine in all I say and do! Amen.
(Place a candle inside and light it)

Our Anniversary

My hubby came to Pensacola Florida with my mom and brother to pick me up from college and when we met again, that was it:)That fall we were married and bought a house in a town about 20 minutes away from our families.
Today we have four children. Three teenage girls and a six year old boy. I wouldn't trade my family for the world.

Birthday party

Today was our youngest daughter's birthday party. Her actual birthday was in August but with school starting before her birthday now,we don't have any free weekends to celebrate her birthday. So, it ended up today was the first day we had to celebrate. That is pretty sad that you can't even celebrate a birthday because you get sooooo busy. Guess that is what happens though when you have 4 kids:).This first picture of the girls is from the corn maze that we took them to for part of the party.
When we got home we had mostaccioli and other snacks and then the kids played guitar hero and dance dance revolution. Yes, it was quite loud in the house for a while today. They had a lot of fun and the kids didn't leave until about 9pm. Now i have to go clean up.

One.. two ...hut!

Yesterday my oldest daughter had a marching band competition. We told her we were going to all her competitions this year since this is her senior year. Well, this competition was in Chicago-not my favorite place to drive:P and the only way I was going to be able to go was if my hubby would drive. Well, he had to work so I just went about my work at home. Our friends came by about 1pm and asked if we would like to ride with them to the competition. I was thrilled!!! He said they were leaving soon, so i got on the phone to my hubby, told him they were taking us and we left. We just got there in time for the competition to start. I had called my daughter to let her know we were coming. She was very happy.
They did not place but it was a very tough competition. This was their hardest competition of the whole season. It was very good practice for them though.
Their music selection this year was from the movie The nightmare before ChristmasThe drum majors dressed as characters from the movie. It was cute.
We ended up leaving after the awards ceremony, which was good because there was a storm coming. We got hammered with rain on the way home. The band members had to stay at the competition. We felt soooo bad for them since it was pouring. Half way home, our daughter called us and said they were coming home too. I was glad. All of us got home safely and had a great day.(click on pictures to see them better)
*****The date on the camera says 2003 but it really was yesterday..Found out the date was wrong on my camera after i had taken all the pictures..Ooops:P********

They got to eat at Grand Central Station after riding the train to Chicago. The weather was beautiful and the Cubs won!!!!!!! What a great present for my Dad who has been a Cub fan since i can remember. My daughter even got her picture put on the Cubs website for the fan photos with our middle daughter's boyfriend. I'd say their day was perfect.

The rest of us left at the house got to go to the mall and shop for homecoming dresses for our freshman and senior girls. We had a ball. The only one that didn't like the day that much was our 6 year old son. He was very good though and got to pick out a toy at KB toys for being so good. Today, if the rain holds off, we are going to watch my oldest daughter march in a parade and then go to the apple orchard. We're praying for another nice day. I found one of these leaf bugs in our bathroom this morning. You have to know how much i dislike bugs in the first place to really see why i am posting this. I have always been one that doesn't like anything that flys or crawls and is part of the insect family. Insects and I don't get along. Then to find this in my bathroom this morning when i was getting ready. Agh!!!!!!!!! I still don't know how it got inside the house. That thing made it all day in the upstairs bathroom and i finally got rid of it tonight when our son was screaming that the bug was still in there and mom-killer of leaf bug- got rid of it. It took all i had to actually smack that thing.:)So now the saga of the big green bug is over and we can all go back to our regular life.:)

first day of school

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We are back in the full swing of school today. All of the kids went today. Our high school started last week, which included two of my kids. This week the other two went. They only have to go til 11:00 and then the rest of the week it is 2:00. Crazy hours i know. Our youngest was the only one that was excited to go this morning.Probably because he is in first grade and still enjoys going;P. The girls know what school really consists of. They don't get to paint, play at recess or play with playdough any more. I really enjoy when school starts b/c my days are alot quieter and any mom knows how nice quiet can be;). In the craziness of this morning i forgot to get pictures but will take some tomorrow and post the smiling faces getting ready to go to school.

Corn maze

Has anyone ever gone through a corn maze????Yes, this is an actual corn field. We go here every year during the fall. Our favorite season is fall with the start of school and the cooler weather. I love the smell of fall, especially in the morning when it is nice and cool. I also love the fall colors of the leaves.
This corn maze is at a smaller apple orchard not that far away from where we live. They plot out the picture they want every year and people really enjoy trying to get through the maze. They have a sheet with questions on it and if you answer the question right you will go the right way to get out of the maze. They also have flashlight night where you can only bring your flashlight to guide you through the maze at night. The favorite of our kids is around Halloween when they have the scary maze. Half of the maze has no one jumping out at you but the second half is scary. They only do that close to Halloween though. It is a lot of fun. Can't wait to go this year.

Thirteen things we have to do to get ready for school

1. Go shopping for whatever is needed before school(and with 3 teenagers in the house you have to be careful how you phrase that statement)
2. Buy school clothes(you know they seem to grow 2-3 inches every year and nothing ever fits right:)Hopefully we are done with the growing soon:)
3. Go to schools and make sure the kids know where their classes are
4. Meet the teachers
5. Buy....many pairs of tennis shoes b/c the school wants you to have 2 pairs each:)
6. Make sure there is plenty of lunch meat snacks chips etc.......
7. Start early bed time for the younger of the kids(my favorite time):)
8. Get sports physicals
9. Make sure everyone gets enough sleep so we will keep to getting up early for school schedule
10.Set clothes out the night before.
11.Make sure everything is in the backpacks before they leave so mom doesn't get the phone call saying "I forgot...... can you bring it to school for me?"
12.Keep on the kids to get their homework done before they watch tv or play game cube or get online-the last one is a BIG one around here
13.Pray that we make it through another year without too many probelms.

our little superman

Three years ago we were approached by this little man's grandma about adopting him. We had had him in my daycare since he was about 11/2 years old. We weren't sure how to take the news since our kids were in their teens and we weren't ready to raise another child.
We ended up adpoting him in August of 2003 and we have had our ups and downs with raising another child but we are,by the grace of God,making it through. I had a really hard time with the first few months having him here. I think since he took so well to dad,it made me a little jealous. I had that bonding process with the girls but not with him which made it harder to get to know him on a family level. Don't get me wrong i love the little guy,but it has taken a while to get to know him.
This fall he is going into the first grade and is very excited about it. Can't believe how fast kids grow up. We have a senior, freshman, and also an eighth grader this year. Makes me sad to see them grow up so quickly but i love to see how they have blossomed into such wonderful kids.
