Happy New Year

Girly Comments & Graphics

Hope everyone has a blessed 2009. We are going to my sister in laws this year for new years. Lots of playing games(video and table) eating and just plain having fun.
I haven't been able to get on a post lately. My regular computer's mouse is dead,so we have to buy another one. Am on our daughter's laptop.I have pictures to post but again need to be on my computer to post them.
We had a wonderful Christmas with my grandparents and mom and dad. I am so glad they got to come for the holidays, even though it was cold and snowy,we still stayed warm. We really enjoyed the company and spending time together.
Happy 2009. May the Lord bless you all richly.

madrigal dinner

The royal court

Katie and her boyfriend

Katie as a knight

Haven't had a chance to post pictures from the Madrigal dinner we went to. It was a lot of fun and the kids did an excellent job. Here are a few pictures of our knight and the royal court. If you ever have a chance to go to a madrigal dinner they are definitely worth going. Wish we would've gone way before this year.

Accident

This is what happened to our van yesterday morning. Hubby called and said the van is going to have to go into the shop and I thought he was kidding. Then he told me about the accident and I asked if he was ok. He was fine and then I asked how the van was. It is going to have to have about $2300 worth of repair done. Maybe more they said since they just estimated what they can see right now. Also, they are going to detail the inside of it b/c coffee went flying everywhere when it was hit.
The lady that hit it is trying to get out of it saying it was our fault. Well, she didn't get too far. She was at fault and so we don't have to pay for repairs. Am so glad especially close to Christmas.
I am just glad no one was hurt. The van can be fixed but you can't replace people.

Glad to be home

Well, we had a nice time in Missouri for Thanksgiving. I got to spend Thanksgiving evening with the flu. Not fun for me. I was in the hotel and everyone else went out for a while so I could rest. At least I didn't gain any weight for this holiday, huh? :) I am doing better today but still not a 100% yet. Wish it would just go away.
The good thing is no one else has gotten it yet,and I hope and pray they don't b/c we have a very busy week and on Friday we are going to Madrigals. It is a Christmas program put on by the high school, and our youngest daughter has a lead part in it this year. She is a knight. If you don't know what Madrigals is...it is a play put on by the kids....they are all British and wear the old fashioned outfits and even have the accent. It is a very good program they put on. I will try to get pictures but it is really difficult b/c of the lighting in there. It is worth every penny we spent to go.Just hope Katie doesn't get sick this year. She always gets run down this week b4 performing, b/c they practice every night until 10 or so. I have had her take extra vitamin C and vitamins. Hope they kick in and start working.
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving with your families. Can't believe Christmas is right around the corner. We are putting up the tree tomorrow afternoon while Brie is home to help.

Thanksgiving week

Am so glad for this week. This is a week where we should all be thankful for the people and things that the Lord has done for us in our lives. We have been soooo busy with the remodeling of our house that it will be a nice break this week to be with family and be able to relax for a while.
I am so glad that I only have to work two days this week. I am looking forward to it. Tomorrow we pick up Brie and she will be with us for the rest of the week until next Sunday. I love having all the kids home. It doesn't happen that often anymore.
Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving and enjoy spending time with your families this week.

remodling put on hold....

Well, we almost got the remodeling done. Now hubby has to work 12 hours a day for awhile and won't be able to get all the remodeling done until this weekend. I guess I can wait that long but I want to get it done!!!!! I guess I shouldn't say too much b/c he is covering for a friend at work that may be losing his wife. She hasn't been doing well for a while now. Her body is shutting down. She has had a bad drinking problem for a long time and it is now catching up with her. Sad.
Will update you when we get back to painting and remodeling.

More projects

Here is part of the remodel we have done to the foyer. The paint looks pinkish in this picture but it is a toupe. It depends on the lighting what color it looks like. I really like the way it is turning out. We have worked every night to get the moldings painted and get rid of the dark look they had in the house b4. Next we are working on the living room. It will be more of a tan color. Stay tuned for upcoming pictures:)

Happy Birthday Em

I am so far behind on posting. Yesterday was our middle daughter's birthday. We went out for dinner but today we are celebrating with the whole family. Our oldest daughter came home late last night so will be here today and tomorrow to celebrate with us. Am so glad she came home early. We may go to an early movie this afternoon after all the girls are done with their babysitting jobs they have today.
It is suppose to snow today. We'll see. We got some really pretty snow yesterday but it didn't stick to the ground. I think our warm days are done for now.
We are finishing the front door today and putting in trim on the floor. The front of the house is really starting to look nice. May strip wallpaper and paint today too. Will see how things go. Lots of repairs are needed and not enough time.
Have a great weekend!!!

This is what we have been working on all weekend. Isn't it pretty??? I am so thrilled to have my new front door in. We still have a little trimming to do as you can see in the 2nd picture but it is coming along nicely. We have 2 windows to install this week so if I am not on much.... you'll know why. :)

Makeover day

We had such a fun day yesterday with our SS class. We had a makeover day. See our study book is called Small changes for a better life and it has a chapter on how you should take care of yourself so our teacher decided to get her hairdresser to do a day of makeovers for us ladies. We didn't know who was going to be madeover so it was fun to sit there and wait to see who they picked. Well, my daughter got picked to get a haircut!!!!! She and I were soooo excited. She is away at college and doesn't get to get away to get her hair cut too often. They did an excellent job on her hair.I wish I would've taken my camera with me to show you pictures but I didn't:( She looks great and I think I found a new place to get my hair cut.:) This place pampers you and it is so nice just to be pampered a little bit every once in a while, right? They have pedicures, manicures, a massage room and full service hair salon. I think I found where my girls and I are going for a mom/daughter day out.:)

Weekend Fun

Not much going on today. We had to get up early and take our daughter to her traffic school class. She got a ticket in April and this class takes it off her record. After we pick her up we are planning on going grocery shopping. Not an exciting thing.
Last night the kids played Twister-the original one. We had soooooooooooo much fun watching them, and yes I did play a couple of times. We had some kids over that had never played it and they had so much fun. It was hilarious to watch them get all tangled up and trying to figure out how to twist and turn. The old games are the best ones.

world food day

World Food Day marks the anniversary of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) in 1945. It is celebrated on October 16 each year.

On October 16, 1945, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) was founded. The aim of this organization is to lead international efforts to defeat hunger, supply information and act as a neutral forum for negotiation and debate around hunger and food supply. Each year World Food Day marks the anniversary of the founding of this organization and concentrates on a particular theme. In 2008 the event's theme is “World Food Security: the Challenges of Climate Change and Bioenergy”.

World Food Day helps raise people's awareness of problems in food supply and distribution.

Weekend Fun

We have a busy weekend planned again. We are going to the Oregon Autumn days today. They have crafts(my favorite):) and games and food and all sorts of fun fall stuff to do. Then tonight we have an adult steak fry-no kids allowed-with the adults from church. Ought to be fun.
Tomorrow as soon as we get out of church we are going to the Kite Fest. They were suppose to have it in September, but we got soooooo much rain that weekend they had to cancel it and rescheduled it for this Sunday. It is suppose to be a lot of fun. Will take pictures and post them later.
Have a great weekend all. I know we will. It is suppose to be a beautiful fall weekend.
***Couldn't go to the kite fest. It got rained out.:( So no pictures*****

Football game

Here's our kids plus one at the football game yesterday. It was beautiful weather for a game and they won the game. The score was something like 48-3. It wasn't really a game, too far ahead. The second picture is the marching band. They did mission impossible. The last one,of course is me and hubby. We had a fun day but we were definitely ready to get home and enjoy the rest of the day with the family.

Keep going, and going and going.......

Have been way too busy lately to post much on here. School, work, church and family have kept me going. This weekend we have a fun thing going on for church. It is called Farmtastic. It is for the teens of the church. THere are churches from all over that come to participate in this. It is a lot of games, food, and fun and then they have a service at the end. Just pray that it doesn't rain on Saturday so they can enjoy the day. Our oldest daughter is coming early this weekend so she can help too. She is also bringing a friend from school to stay the night at our house. We are looking forward to this weekend. Ought to be fun. Will try to get pictures if I can. I am working during the lunch at farmtastic. They are serving over 2000 hot dogs that day. Should be a good turn out.

Trip to Maranatha

Good picture of Brie and Emily.

She gets a top bunk. Guess it was first come first serve. :) It has been a while since I made a bunk bed. Not easy!!!

This is Brie's dorm. She is on the other side of the building but I took this side b/c the name is on it.

happy 15th birthday Katie

Today is our youngest daughter's birthday. Can't believe she is turning 15 already. Seems like it was just yesterday that we were bringing her home from the hospital.
We are going to have a birthday breakfast with the family since dad has to work tonight, then we are going to have a birthday dinner with some of her friends.

Other news.....we took our oldest daughter to college yesterday. She is so excited about starting. We went around with her yesterday getting all the paperwork and pictures and all the audition times she needed. She has four roommates and hopefully has all the things she needs to start her semester. I would have pictures up to show you her room and all....but the memory card we used in the camera won't let me download them since we used my daughter's camera and not mine. So will have to get a disc made and then post them.

Have a great labor day weekend everyone. I know I am going to enjoy it. I have a four day weekend and am going to make the best of it. :)

You Scored an A

You got 9/10 questions correct.

It's pretty obvious that you don't make basic grammatical errors.

If anything, you're annoyed when people make simple mistakes on their blogs.

As far as people with bad grammar go, you know they're only human.

And it's humanity and its current condition that truly disturb you sometimes.

Look what I got :)

Like my new fridge???? We got it yesterday because my other one bit the dust. It was not keeping milk or anything cold and I am sure it was at least 20 years old, so it was time to get a new one. I love this new fridge. It has a water filter system on it so we can get good water to drink and has crushed and cubed ice. I like all the extras you get on appliances:) This is the first new fridge i have ever had. I always have gotten used ones. I am so excited. I go to the kitchen just to look at it hehe:)

too busy to post...

Wow!!! I was looking at the last time I posted and I haven't posted at all in August. I am really falling behind.
We have been very busy this summer. This last week we took vacation and had a great time. We went to Indiana to a family reunion, then the next day had a 90th birthday party for my grandpa. Then we came home and my parents, brother and sister and her family came to stay for a few days. We went shopping and found some really good deals and went to visit my aunt one day-which was very nice to see her and her hubby again. Then Thursday we really didn't do a whole lot-sort of a rest day. Friday we went into Chicago to shop. It was a lot of fun. We walked,I don't know how many miles that day around Chicago, but it was a lot of fun. We stopped at Millennium park and saw the bean and the sculptures there. The guys were at a Cub game that day and the Cubbies won. They were excited. We then ate dinner at Giordano's. Great Chicago style pizza.
This week we are getting the kids ready for school. It starts next week. I was not ready for all of them to go back at the same time. The younger ones usually go the week after high school but not this year. Guess it is good though. They are all ready to go back.
Hope you all have enjoyed your summer. I know we have. Just wish it didn't have to end.

In my daughters' eyes

In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
In my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the
world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me gives me
strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter's eyes

And when she wraps her hand
around my finger
Oh it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about

It's hangin' on when your heart
has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
I've seen the light
It's in my daugter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
Though she'll grow and someday leave
Maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see how happy
she made me
For I'll be there
In my daughter's eyes

Found this online and had to post it for my daughters. It is sung by Martina McBride and I love it!!!

VBS

This week has been VBS at our church. Our son has gone all week and really enjoyed it. The girls have also been working at VBS too. It has been a very busy week. Wednesday was water day and I think the favorite day of all the kids.

This is Ricky having fun in the water games. He came home soaked!!!!! Today is the last day of VBS and they get to see who wins the grand prize which is a bike. Ricky has wanted that all week but not sure if he will win since he didn't want to memorize any verses or get too many extra points. We'll see. His team over all has been winning though and he has been telling us all about the missionary story that they have been hearing all week. I'm impressed. I just hope the heat isn't as bad as it has been all week. We are still dealing with air conditioner problems. We have one that works but it is a smaller unit and only puts out so much cool air. It has been in the 90's and very humid this week. Today is suppose to rain so hopefully there will be some relief from the heat.

What's going on.....

I know I have neglected this blog for a while. It has just been so hard to keep up with this and everything else that is going on. I am keeping very busy this summer with work and not much time to keep up with blogging.
We had a really nasty storm tonight. Thought we were going to have to go to the basement but it passed. It did blow one of our windows right out of the frame. Now that is some strong wind. It didn't break though. Also, our daughter's car alarm went off. Guess it was the hail or rain that set it off. The bad thing was that the pad to shut it off was in her car so hubby went out and shut it off. Life is never boring around here. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Am really glad tomorrow if Friday. Am looking forward to the weekend and some time off to get things done around the house.

Summer blahs

Again the days have flown by. Can't believe it is July already. Before you know it we will be getting the kids off to school again.
Today is another busy day of work. Both my older girls work today and the younger two are just chillin' at the house with "nothing" to do at all. Ever heard that phrase at your house?? I mean the kids have game cube, PS 2, books, games, and could even go outside to play but there is still not anything to do. Maybe today if it doesn't rain we will get the new sprinkler out. It is a beach ball that shoots water out of it. It is a lot of fun. The kids played with it last week,on the day we DIDN'T have rain, and really liked it. Will have to post pictures later of it.
Well, off to work again. Have a great Tuesday.

We went to Brookfield Zoo this year and saw this polar bear. He was so cute playing with the log in the water. He would push it in the water and then dig it back out. Very entertaining.

Life at our house

Haven't been on for quite a long time. Real life is too busy around here. Busy with work and church and family things. It seems like every time we have a free weekend or even free evening something comes up. This weekend we have an eighth grade graduation to attend, next weekend we are going school clothes shopping for our oldest. Hitting all the thrift shops and clearance isles.;)
The girls have a girls night out activity tonight. All the girls from church are going out to eat and just having a good time.
Have been home by myself lately. Hubby has been working LOTS of overtime because one of his friend's wife is very sick and may not make it much longer. Just keep her in your prayers. So, since he is working it is harder to make myself make dinner and many nights the girls are not even here because of working or other activities they have. It is usually me and my son and the animals.:) Guess they are all growing up but I do like having them here.
Thank goodness the rain has stopped. We had a little rain today but not alot. We could go without it for a while and still be good. It has been a very rainy spring.

Summer is officially here

Well, I can tell summer is here. Warmer weather and lazier kids;). It is nice not to be on a strict schedule like the fall, but sometimes I think we need that schedule all the time to keep things going.
The kids are not doing too much this summer. I have one in summer school and working now and the youngest ones are just enjoying summer outside.
I have been very busy with work so if I am not on here it is because I am busy taking care of the kids.
It is a little quieter here today. Not as many kids so far and it is raining and muggy outside so guess we aren't going there today either. Have had lots of rain lately.
Am fighting off a cough and really wish it would just leave. It has really worn me out!!!
Hope all of you are good and having a great summer.

Busy week

Well, there is no Friday Feast today and I haven't posted for awhile because May is a very busy month here. The girls are taking their last final today and get out early. They are very excited. I will have a sophomore in college a sophomore in high school and a junior in high school and a third grader next fall. Can't believe it!!!!! Our oldest daughter just got her acceptance email to the college she applied to yesterday. She is thrilled. I am so happy for her. She still has to take 2 classes this summer to be a full fledged sophomore but she can do it.
We are not doing too much this Memorial day weekend. Just going to my great nephews first birthday party and then coming home to work around the house. Hopefully, a relaxing extended weekend. The weather is suppose to co-operate with us too. That will be nice.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Take time to spend with your families and have a relaxing weekend.

You Are an Optimist

You definitely see the sunny side of life, even when things aren't going so great.

And while you may not be a realist, your optimism has really improved your quality of life.

You have the energy to take charge, solve your problems, and enjoy life for what it is.

Optimists are happier and healthier - so keep thinking positive!
